    Cindy Morgan is a Nashville-based contemporary Christian singer-songwriter from rural East Tennessee who learned piano as a child and reached Word Records after performing at Dollywood and making demo work. Her 1990s music changed markedly. The early dance-pop carried an R&B pulse, while A Reason to Live shifted toward piano ballads and mid-tempo songs without abandoning bass-driven tracks. Under the Waterfall made the writing more confessional and moved further into mid-tempo R&B and gospel. By Listen, piano had replaced synthesizer as the main engine: the album used a live, lightly layered approach with a theatrical shape, hard rock passages, and 1940s jazz touches. Morgan wrote or co-wrote every song on it. Her characteristic contrast was a powerful voice set against simple piano figures, then placed inside increasingly elaborate album concepts.

    After The Loving Kind appeared in 1998, Morgan issued The Best So Far in 2000, a compilation that gathered most of her major singles while omitting several notable tracks. She later continued recording and songwriting beyond the period covered here, including the album Postcards in 2006 and the duo St. Lola in the Fields with Jeremy Bose, whose 2010 release extended her work into a different setting. In 2012 she joined Andrew Greer for the Hymns for Hunger tour. Morgan also wrote for other performers and moved into prose, publishing the novel The Year of Jubilee in 2023. Her later work includes collaborations with Operation Song and projects connected with hunger relief and unhoused communities. She remains active as a songwriter and producer, and as an author.
