    Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Ginny Owens is a singer-songwriter whose career began in Nashville after she studied music education at Belmont University and signed with Rocketown Records. Blind from early childhood, she built her songs around piano-led arrangements and a clear voice, with lyrics concerned with faith and the pressures of ordinary life. The reviews also noted her movement between quiet ballads, jazz and blues passages, and R&B-pop production. The 1999 debut Without Condition established a soft, soulful sound, with simple instrumentation and a strong sense of personality. Something More shifted toward layered production, electronic textures, and contemporary pop without abandoning the piano-centered writing. By Beautiful, the emphasis had settled into polished blue-eyed soul and ballads, while Live from New Orleans recast familiar songs in a sparse, jazz-influenced live setting.

    In 2005, Owens founded the Fingerprint Initiative, a nonprofit connected with humanitarian work, while continuing to record and perform. Rocketown released her final album for the label in 2006, after which she worked independently and expanded into teaching and writing while taking on advocacy work. She released Say Amen...Hymns and Songs of Faith in 2009, followed by Get In, I'm Driving in 2011 and later singles. Her songs appeared in film and television, and she published Singing in the Dark: Finding Hope in the Songs of Scripture in 2023. Owens remains a singer-songwriter. In February 2026, she released Different Kind of Water, an EP built around spiritual conversations and the difficulties of daily life.
