Headnoise is a Southern California Christian punk band formed in 1994. Its early records used an old-school punk framework, but the writing was unusually direct: songs addressed sin, hypocrisy, and churches that excluded people who looked different. Edie Goodwin's lead vocal gave the group its most recognizable feature, moving from low, forceful singing to screams and spoken sermon passages. The 1998 debut presented that approach as DIY punk with a rough modern-rock edge; by Dead To the World in 2001, the band had pushed toward faster hardcore, gang shouts, and a more chaotic attack. The group also treated studio detail as part of its method. "Peace?" was built around speech rather than singing, while Keith Green and Danny DeVito samples appeared beside songs that used punk's bluntness for Christian admonition.

In 2000, Headnoise relocated from Southern California to Chicago and joined the Jesus People USA community, then moved to Grrr Records. The change of setting came during a period of personnel turnover. Robert Goodwin remained on bass, while Jason Seiler played guitar and Casey Logan handled drums in the lineup associated with the 2001 release. Robert and Edie Goodwin remained the band's continuing core as other members changed. Headnoise announced its retirement in 2005 after a decade of touring, but returned in 2011 for a short-lived reunion that ended the following year. Another reformation began in 2017, with Edie and Robert Goodwin again part of the lineup.
