Seventh Day Slumber is a Christian rock band formed in Dallas in 1996, led from the beginning by singer and principal songwriter Joseph Rojas. A 2003 review described the group as Nashville-based. Early material paired acoustic and electric guitars with melodic adult-contemporary rock; Matthew Twenty-Five also made Rojas's testimony part of the record, with songs about addiction, a cocaine overdose, and a mother's persistence. Freedom from Human Regulations kept the mid-tempo modern-rock approach, while Picking Up the Pieces moved toward heavier post-grunge through thick bass and cutting guitars. By Once Upon a Shattered Life, the band had settled into emotive hard rock with soaring choruses and intelligible vocals. Reviewers differed over originality, but the records consistently presented direct songs for troubled young listeners.
By 2005, Rojas and bassist Joshua Schwartz were the only members of the early quartet still in the band, and Seventh Day Slumber had moved from independent releases to BEC Recordings. Later personnel changes continued as the group issued Coming Awake in 2007 and The Anthem of Angels in 2011, followed by a Spanish-language album and further releases centered on faith, depression, and emotional trauma. After completing its BEC contract in 2012, the band partnered with Capitol CMG and began releasing music through RockFest Records. Seventh Day Slumber remained active under Rojas, with new members joining over time and worship material becoming more prominent alongside its rock songs.
