Velour 100 was a Ypsilanti, Michigan band formed around 1995 by Trey Many and Amon Krist. Many handled the music while Krist supplied the early lead vocals, placing the group in a hazy strain of dream pop built from sustained guitar tones and quiet-to-loud movement. The 1997 Songs from the Rainwater E.P. preserved older material in a form marked by sweeping guitar melodies, acoustic guitar, pure sustained vocals, and a steady waterlike motion. By Of Color Bright later that year, Krist had departed and the band no longer had one lead singer. Sydney Rentz, Tess Wiley, and Karin Oliver divided the vocal work, while Matt Hudson's guitars and Jeremy Dybash's drums supported a more contemplative form of droning guitar pop.
Velour 100 then went on hiatus. Many revived the project for the self-released 1999 EP For An Open Sky, which featured Rosie Thomas alongside him on vocals. The group returned for a few shows and short tours, ending with a final appearance at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on October 16, 2000. A related version called Half-Life Souvenir toured briefly without releasing music. Many later worked as a producer for other artists.
