(Let it be known, there is a black metal band that has recently emerged from Europe that is using the moniker Aeturnus. Don't mistake them for this Christian thrash band that is being reviewed now)
That aside, let me introduce you to a very good concept that maybe could have benefited from a little spit-and-polish in the execution therein. My assessment of From Blackest Darkness is thus: A loosely structured concept album based on the destructive murderous spirit and the judgement and destruction of the person that (to quote from their song "Carnage") "lives to kill". It's a concept commonly explored in Christian death and thrash metal, and equally as commonly misunderstood in the regular Christian market. Anyway, thesis paper put away, here's the report:
From Blackest Darkness starts off with a metallic version of the Imperial Death March from Star Wars. Cool. This segues into "Carnage". This song, the singer from the band has said before, should be taken into context with the next song, "Knee Deep In The Dead". I say this because there's been many a well-meaning Christian friend of mine that question why I have this CD in my collection. It's an unsugar-coated look at murder.
The only real (for lack of a better word) problem I really have with From Blackest Darkness is the production. Yes, I've harped on production quality in the past, but that comes from years in radio and recording classes. I'll say it's raw. That adds to the CD, and at some places it takes away from it. But, bottom line is it's interesting thrash. Check it out.

Heaven's Metal #54Reviewed by Brian Vincent McGovernAre you ready for a very hard, very fast hardcore experience reminiscent of Mortification, Believer, and Living Sacrifice? Yeah? Then hear this. The vocals attack the listener with a relentless amalgamation of frenzied articulation. Imagine what violence and death sound like. Now scream at them in anger because they're trying to use power over you that they just don't have. The intro track,…
Salt #26Reviewed by BooFrom Blackest Darkness, the first release for the K.C. based Aeturnus, is currently being distributed to stores. If you're smart, you'll get there early. Why? These guys are really good. Lots of diversity in their music and some interesting hooks not usually found in their particular genre of music. Vocally, I'm reminded of The Crucified, only a bit more growling. With the good production, great…
Heaven's Metal #50Reviewed by Jeff LottOh my! I hear plenty of aggression and intensity here! I only wish the production could have been as hot as the music. There are four tunes here, my favorite being "Death From Above." I definitely smell a big Pantera Influence here. If these guys can get a higher quality tape out production wise, record labels should be busting their doors down.
