The first time that I became aware of the music of Annie Quick was a number of years ago while she was the front person of a band called Stickman Jones. Stickman played Americana music featuring mandolin, accordion, acoustic guitar, and the impressive lyrical writing of their singer, a young woman named Annie Quick. Bigger is the second solo album by Quick since the dissolution of Stickman Jones. While her first solo project, Orange Juice still had glimpses of the past days, this newer endeavor does not. Gone are the days of acoustic music, they have been replaced by a sound of full blown rock n roll. What is left though is a brilliant lyricist who can paint amazing pictures with her word craft, also still remaining is that great voice. Not since the days when Debbie Harry led "Blondie" across the stage of CBGB's has a New York artist deserved the title of rock goddess. Annie Quick is indeed a rock goddess!
The band on this excellent collection of rock tunes includes Quick on guitar and vocals, Jad Mintun on bass, A. Francis King on drums with support from Matt Heslinga on lead guitars, Vahak Janbazian on drums and backing vocals, Joel D. Rotaw on bass and Ted Dove on lead guitar. All of the songs were written and produced by Quick and mixed by long time bass player Jad Mintun. The project was recorded at various New York locations and was engineered by Quick, Jad and Lee Kizer. All of the songs on this project deal in one way or another with a creation of Quick named Georgette.
