Big Collapse is going for a straight-ahead rock and roll sound that incorporates a heavy dose of gritty punk. On "Prototype," frankly, I just cannot get past the lead vocals. They are whiney (not in the "indie/emo" way), nasal, grating, and sound the same on every song. In every other respect this band seems to have it together: experienced musicians, decent enough lyrics, tight songs, a good recording, and so on. But the vocals prove too much for me to get past.
