My God marks the debut of singer/songwriter Carla Sullivan. Label-mate Steve Griffith of Vector not only produces, but plays keyboards, while Mark Hill joins on bass, and Steve Brewster adds the drums. Although most of the songs are performed with a full band, there is nevertheless a light and relaxed acoustic feel to the album. All ten songs were penned by Sullivan.
The message of this album is varied, but centers around Sullivan's personal relationship with Christ. There are songs that express a heart reaching out ("Into Your Waiting Arms") and descriptions of deliverance ("Your Love Broke Through"-my personal favorite on the album). There are also expressions of confidence in God ("There is Nothing You Can't Do"), and encouragement for others ("Heaven Is Waiting").
This project compares favorably with other artists with similar style such as Karyn List, Kelli Reisen, or Pam Thum, although Sullivan's voice is not as dominating as any of them. It could easily be played as restful background music, for those meditative times. There is no question that these are well-written songs that will be enjoyed for a long time to come.
