Upstart label Idols of the Marketplace recently re-released an underrated 1997 full-length entitled Girl Takes Mercury (After All-Night Party), by Catharsis and the Humdrum. The band is no more, but this sleeper legacy remains to awaken our minds and spirits with an unfortunately rare brand of honesty -- in the introspection, challenge, rebuke, confession, hope, doubt, and irony departments. Musically, let's haphazardly say a mix of U2, the Cure, Radiohead, and R.E.M., with peculiar, wide-ranging, often moving vocals. Bottom line, this is a good disk for the Christian drowning in milk and yearning for meat. (www.IMP500.com) Idols in the Marketplace -- P.O. Box 50138, Fort Wayne, IN 46805.
