As soon as I finished listening to this album for the first time, I knew that I would have to revise my top 10 list for the year. Hailing from Mesa, Arizona, this is the band's third release and their best yet. The core of the band is made up of husband and wife, Ken and Peggie Balcom and if you think there is a reason why Peggie's voice sounds familiar there is a good explanation for that. Peggie is the sister of Annie Quick from the NY based Stickman Jones. Ken and Peggie have written all of the songs on this exquisite album and co-equally handle all of the vocal chores. Their sound fits perfectly within what is commonly referred to as Triple A or college radio. By the way CAVU stands for "Ceiling And Visibility Unlimited" an old weather bureau term. You'll have to read the album's liner notes to find out why they picked the term and it makes for a great story to complement a great album. I got the chance to see the group perform twice in NYC about a year or so ago and this is the kind of band I would go to see at the drop of a hat. Their live set is just as good as their recorded product and their recorded stuff is extraordinary. If you haven't guessed yet I really like what I am hearing. Maybe someone can hook up a CAVU & Stickman Jones tour. That would be really sweet.
