Convicted Resistance 33, more commonly known as CR33, is a four-piece rapcore band from Illinois. Their first album on Bettie Rocket Records is entitled "The Backlash Uprising."

Just when you thought Rage Against the Machine was dead, CR33 puts the "rap" back into "rapcore." Like Rage, CR33's lyrics are political, but they're preaching more about Christians fighting the evils of this world than a band that spews their political propaganda through their music.

The three best songs on "The Backlash Uprising" are: "Backlash," "Broken" and "Soul Shocker." Unfortunately, with the exception of "Birth of Defiance" and "Curtain Call," the other tracks tend to all run together into one long aggressive rapcore song without any memorable hooks to distinguish one song from the next.

Despite the fact that many of CR33's songs are quite similar, CR33 shows a lot of potential, especially their singer Cisco Cruz who can rap with the best of them. There's also definitely room for CR33 in the mainstream with bands like P.O.D. topping the charts. Yet the thing that separates CR33 from P.O.D. is their lack of pop choruses to go along with their rapcore verses.

If compared to the production of bands like P.O.D. and Project 86, "The Backlash Uprising" really can't compete, but if a major label could put some money behind CR33's next album, you never know what could happen. Overall "The Backlash Uprising" is a decent first effort from CR33, but keep an eye out because their best is yet to come.
