Dave Patrick's A Future and a Hope is a nicely done instrumental jazz-rock album which is distributed by Broken Records.

The song, "And They Lived", has a flavor of melancholy, which lends itself nicely to the instrumental canvas. "Set Me Free" definitely reminds the listener of the Tropics, with its touch of Calypso-Latin flair, and funky beat. Opening with a wistful piano solo before breaking into the strong guitar part, "Longing Heart" musically explores the feeling of yearning for God, and is one of the strongest tracks on this album. A clap of thunder starts "Waiting for the Moment" which is supposed to be a call to Christians to anxiously wait for the Lord's return.

Technically, the recording is very well done, with stellar performances by Dave Patrick on electric guitar, and accompaniment on bass, drums, piano, and percussion. All the musicians blend well together, and seem to have a good synch going on. In general, the guitar licks somewhat remind me of Journey, with more of an 80's rock flavor, which might take some getting used to for those more accustomed to classical styles of jazz from the 1940s and '50s.

The CD liner notes feature corresponding Bible verses and thoughts about what inspired each song, which would make for a good devotional time. This is also a really fun enhanced CD-ROM, which features an animated 3-D café, where visitors can click on different items on the screen, such as a café menu with options, or a hanging picture on the wall, which yields a full-length video of Dave Patrick and his band.

Although Bandoppler Radio generally focuses its attention more on rock and pop, this little jazz nugget would make a nice addition to a cd library. Three and a Half Cows.
