The sound is familiar, but it's not coming out of Liverpool, England, this time around-it's coming to us direct from stateside USA. Having never listened to David and the Giants prior to their latest release, Dream, I was admittedly taken aback-their sound is professional, finished, and had me hooked from the first time through. Please don't get the wrong impression; I'm not saying that David and the Giants are professing themselves to be the newest Beatles, but parts of their sound are definitely reminiscent of a sound I grew up loving.
I would classify David and the Giants music as historic rock and roll with a leaning toward a mellow sound, the kind that even those who normally would not listen to this genre of music might enjoy. Song after song on this project brings out a new sound, but always consistently bringing forth the best in both the vocals and instrumentation. But don't think they can't rock the house-"A Million Years From Now" puts out a beat and brings down the rafters.
So they sound great, but what are their lyrics saying to those who listen? Every song speaks directly to the heart of the Christian, endeavoring to minister to needs, and lift the listener up. Even in their heavier rock, this band reaches out with meaning:
A million years from now It's gonna matter How you lived and how you died You're gonna find out A million years from now It's gonna matter If you were crucified
David and the Giants' Dream is going to get a lot of time on my CD player-you never know it could still be playing "A Million Years From Now."
