Decibully is one of those bands that is hard to fit into a specific genre. Comprised of former members of the Promise Ring and Camden, this Milwaukee septet incorporates guitars, keyboards, banjo, lapsteel, and synths to create a blend of pop, rock, emo, folk, and country music. Their sophomore release, City of Festivals has country flourishes, electronic twinges, melodic rock undertones, and well-crafted lyrics that bring to mind comparisons to Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot with a little bit of the Shins and Rilo Kiley influence shining through occasionally. The album flows smoothly from start to finish, and the melodic instrumentation and crooning, often falsetto vocal harmonies make it very easy to sit back and relax with this album playing in the background. The songs are very well written and there are some great hooks throughout this cd that will bring you back for multiple listens. Overall this is a very solid release, with the exception of a few filler tracks towards the end of the disc. If you are a fan of Wilco, Crowded House, the Promise Ring, or the Shins you will want to give City of Festivals a listen, you won't regret it.
