Washington D.C. Grammy winner's Deep Dish have returned with their first album in almost 6 years. If you are unfamiliar with the band, they are a dance rock band. It's probably closest to house music as far as instrumentation goes but they also utilize quite a few guitar loops that give the songs more edge than your average electronic artist would even consider using: hence the "rock" part.

I admittedly had reservations when seeing the album cover for this one. Thankfully I got over it and put the CD in because this is excellent. If you can imagine Moby on steroids and with a sense of humor you are on the right path. The album opens with the anthemic "No Stopping for Nicotine" and it certainly kicks it off right. The song is REALLY catchy and has a broad appeal in the sense that I could imagine a Radiohead fan digging it. "Flashdance" and "Sexy Ill" keep the album firmly rooted in the electronic/dance house arts, while also bringing a "shake your booty" kind of fun feel to the whole album. "Say Hello" has a heavy Cathy Dennis vibe that I totally dig and the band's remake of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams," which features Stevie Nicks' vocal work, is an intriguing take on the hit. The highlight here is the song "Sergio's Theme" though and if it's a moment of immense intensity and creativity you are looking for, this is where you get your fix. It definitely show's a different dimension of the band.

All in all I really like this album. It includes a bonus CD filled with remixes of "Flashdance" and "Say Hello" as well as videos for both. The bonus CD isn't that big of a deal but the main CD is totally worth the asking price even if you just have an on again/ off again relationship with electronic music.
