Finally, the new Deitiphobia has arrived. With new members on board, Wally has achieved a different sound than previous albums. With the addition of guitarist Josh Plemons, some of the songs are given a feel of Chemlab, or "Head Like A Hole" -era Nine Inch Nails. Wally's wife, Sherri, sings and plays keyboard on a few tunes. Sherri's vocals kind of remind one of KMFDM's female vocals.
The album opens up with "The Shake (Part 1 [The Body])," which has a Front 242 feel to it. The second track, "Take The Sin," is a remix of a song released on the Blonde Vinyl Slava Compilation. It was a song Wally did for a side project called ICON TACK. "Vivid" definitely has that Nine Inch Nails appeal to it. Those little blurp, boop sounds. Boy, I love 'em. The title track, "Clean" and "The Shake (Part II [Brother])" both have a Chemlab influence, especially in the guitar parts and kind of in the vocal deliveries. Overall, the album has a newer Front 242 ("Pretty Hate Machine" -era) Nine Inch Nails feel to it.
I'm really glad to see Wally experimenting in different areas of the industrial genre. I personally don't care for the female vocals, but that's just me. Some of the keyboard sounds are dated and sound old, but it's a pretty good album altogether. Some of the true, diehard Deitiphobia fans may find this hard to adapt to, but it's pretty good. Try it out.
