The tear sheet I got with this cd stated that "we are very ministry oriented with the goal of reaching kids..." and the lyrics to the four songs included on this CD only further provide proof that Fasedown is nothing if not a ministry band.

Just in case you didn't know Fasedown consists of some pretty well experienced players in the Christian music field. Jim Chaffin (drums) from the Crucified and the Blamed, Mike Phillips (guitars) from Deliverance, and John Hansen (bass) from the Blamed join Devin Shaeffer (vocals) to round out the unit.

Musically we're talking about a California based hardcore band. Not overly metal (although there are some pieces) influenced these guys are sticking to the hardcore basics, power, energy, and even old-school influenced vocals, during the first couple of tracks.

Then comes Time, a very interesting song. It kind of reminds me of the older thrash days a bit more than recent hardcore. Especially during the chorus when the words are almost marched through "Time to love, Time to hate, Time to kill, Time to repent" and that last word repent, is growled, just like Sacrament might have done. Not to mention the distinctive 80's metal/thrash lead Mike pulls toward the end of this song, really makes this one shine. This is a GREAT track!

Track four takes us to a slower hardcore song that crunches right along, but is heavy enough for just about anyone. Several double bass parts, and again a tad bit of the older metal influence in the guitars towards the end makes this a cool track to kick back to.

Four songs is all you get but it's a great taste of what we can expect from this band, and I'm anxious to get a full length from them real soon.

HM Magazine #90Reviewed by Doug Van PeltIt seems Jim Chaffin just can't get the aggression out of his system. Longtime drummer for The Crucified, this man's feet and hands were responsible for many a bruise and muscle ache. After the dissolution of one of Christian hard music's all-time great bands, he joined (and altered the sound of) the Blamed. Besides filling in for numerous bands on spot dates, Jim began working with a new band —…
