The leading jazz quartet Fourplay returns with their sixth and strongest studio album to date. Fourplay has shined in the jazz world since 1991 and they've earned multiple gold records and Grammy nominations. The group has earned such a huge following based on the amazing work experience each group member has had with other bands.
Pianist Bob James has had numerous solo albums, worked as Sarah Vaughan's musical director, and as a television composer/arranger. Bass player and background vocalist Nathan East is known for his songwriting skills, penning hits for the likes of Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, and Eric Clapton, just to name a few. Guitarist Larry Carlton has produced, arranged, and composed numerous works, including 20 solo albums. The back beat of the group, Harvey Mason, has played since the late 1960's, including time on stage with Duke Ellington and Erroll Garner. With Yes, Please, the four men are on that same track and seem to also be on the same wavelength as when they recorded their most commercially successful album Elixir. Although mainstream recognition and award show appearances are not why the group exists, songs like the slow piano led ballad "Once Upon a Time" and the soulful, bouncy number "Robo Bop," deserve such recognition.
The heavy bass on "Save Some Love For Me" features standout background vocal accompaniments by the soulful Chante Moore. "A Little Fourplay" features the deep, Brandy-influenced voice of Sherree all throughout the song, proving that the group also shines with words in their songs.
Fourplay continues to be a staple of high quality modern jazz music, similar in style to Richard Elliot and Ramsey Lewis, while incorporating traditional sounds from their pasts.
