In the vein of Unwed Sailor and Godspeed You! Black Emperor comes foxhole. They are in the vein of those bands in the meaning that it's all just music and no lyrics not in the sense of style. This is more of a spiritual and emotional journey than a musical experience. I can't really describe anything about this album to you except that it is a must listen to album. I have never heard of this band before and I'm not really a fan of instrumental bands. I enjoy instrumentals if they take up one track on a whole album but I'm not really the type of person to sit down and just listen to an hour or more long instrumental.
I found we the wintering tree a push back to Mineral (EndSerenading) or Sunny Day Real Estate (Diary) without the vocals. There is a fusing of horns within this album that adds to the ride. One of the only things I don't like about this album is the rough endings. Some of the tracks just end abruptly without any fade out or anything to let you know that the song is ending. At points the music is soft and subtle and at other points it's more aggressive ala SDRE Diary. On some points you can faintly hear vocals in the background but it's almost impossible to make out the words. I find the recording quality to quite good considering that it was recorded in a sanctuary of a church. Very enjoyable and very endearing.
