The Gospel Gangstaz were one of the first Christian rap acts to incorporate "gangsta" stylings in their music. After two albums, Do or Die and Gang Affiliated, the group dropped off the map for several years before returning with last year's I Can See Clearly Now.
KMG Records, who last year acquired the Frontline Music Group's back catalog, stands poised to make some money on the Gangstaz' renewed popularity. Rather than releasing a Classics Archive set, the label simply assembled some talented remixers to work their magic on selected tracks from those two early albums.
Highlights from the disc include "CMC's Meet OGG'z", in which the Gangstaz trade verbal punches with fellow rappers the CMC's, as well as Every Day Life's "Whitey on the Moon" which featured a cameo from the GG'z Mr. Solo.
The Gospel Gangstaz are sponsoring a fan-driven effort to get KMG to re-release the two albums in their entirety. While the GGz weren't consulted on this disc and don't support it, it's still a great way to get to know some of the Gangstaz' early works.
