Heavenbound have been playing around the German CCM scene for some years now, taking their laid-back reggae sound to audiences around the country and recording a couple of well received albums. This album will almost certainly win favor with people already enamoured with the band, with its smooth vocals and harmonies, delivered relatively gently in a manner that demonstrates clear UB40 influences.
The lyrics are in English. They vary in quality, but the general impression is that the more predictable lyrics are part of the band's sense of humor. Other tracks, such as "Carry Through," mix more interesting thoughts with a simple chorus. There's nothing that really grabs the ear and pulls in the mind, but neither is there the abundance of cliches that often abounds when a group attempts to sing in what is to them a foreign tongue.
The music is performed as smoothly as the vocals, mixing the odd programmed beat with a simple percussion set-up: the obvious guitar and bass and some appropriate horns. If it's a relaxing reggae release you're after, then this may be worth a listen. But if you're looking for something to hold your interest, this may not be the right album.
