Many great things can be said about History Invades new album, The Structure of a Precise Fashion. The fact that it's produced by superstar Jason Martin is rather odd, since this album lacks any of the subtlety that makes Starflyer so good. This album is spastic and angular. Containing post punk sounds, utilizing many different tempos, noise, and a more technical side than melody focused. Spoken, yelled and sung parts create vocal mixture that is History Invades, and are done in a non-aesthetic yet artistic way.
Many moments on The Structure of a Precise Fashion are quite fun and perhaps even dance-able. One that comes to mind is on "My Name is Afraid," where there are screams of, "Communication in binary (one, zero, zero, one, zero, one, one!)," and while this may be a silly statement, it's simply an amazingly enjoyable line on this album. There are quite a few amazing moments in this album, and it's what saves the album from an otherwise melody lacking album.
While listening to this album I'm reminded of a less frantic Bullet Train to Vegas and a more intense Arcade Fire. If that excites you, give History Invades a try. I believe this is one of the few non-melodic albums I really enjoy, and would be a great gateway into otherwise less aesthetically pleasing music that is nonetheless artistic.
