When you name your band Hokus Pick Manouver, you're likely trying to create a fun, safe environment for some humorous, energetic antics. Hey, it was worth a try, right?
In reality H.P.M. only wants the appearance of a poor man's Newsboys, for the most part the visual direction of the project is its most interesting feature. With vocals mixed so far out front that the instrumentals sound like an afterthought, these Canadians end up playing a variety of folk influenced pop and rock, while masquerading as a hip, new wave variety rock band.
Not much of a cohesive sound comes through Pick It Up, and generally the sound is dated by contemporary standards. When your samples are more interesting than the songs, you've got trouble right here in river city. It starts with a "P" and rhymes with dew.
