Man of War is the rap project of 23-year-old Sam Orozco, and while he is the driving force behind the album, this disc displays the talents of many of the rappers on Syntax.
With the name Man of War (i.e. a soldier in God's army) and the title Ten Horn Daggers (a reference to the Ten Horned Dragon in Revelation), one gets a pretty good sense of the content of the disc. Most of the songs deal with spiritual warfare, particularly in relation to the end times and how God will defeat the great Beast. These songs exhort us to be Christ-like, and that we need to prayerfully worship God every day if we want to be victorious.
This is laid back rap that will certainly appeal to fans of most of the rap that is out on the streets this day. Not too poppy, not too hardcore, but quite pleasing melodically. At times the sound is a bit reminiscent of the Dynamic Twins, one of the better Christian rap outfits of years gone by. But while there are 27 tracks listed on this disc, there are really only about 13 songs, with the rest of the tracks being interludes of various lengths. Unfortunately these shorter songs and spoken word bits take away from the overall sound of the disc.
Best tracks are "Warman," "Verbal Junk," "Deep (with its string arrangement)," and the metalized "Ten Horn Daggers."
