We often perceive worship being done during the peaks and mountains of our lives. After all, it's a celebration of God's goodness and grace. Matt McGee challenges such concepts with Worship Through the Valley--how does one go about praising and adoring the Almighty God during times of dryness?
Matt McGee's suggestions include recognizing that God sometimes tests and refines us with fire--"Come, and try my heart / Come, my eyes are on you" ("Lord Come") or acknowledging that at times our difficulties are caused by our unwillingness to lean on Him--"Who am I to direct my ways? / I deserve all the blame / But Lord I crave your peace and rest / So take my life and strip my name" ("Who am I").
"Worship Through the Valley" is a sincere and heartfelt attempt to make connection with our Heavenly Father even though it appears that He is hiding or asleep, where worship becomes more meaningful and more sacrificial. With simple songs and basic arrangements that emphasize content over form, it may take a little more effort to focus on the lyrics (as the music is unremarkable) but doing so the God seeker will be rewarded with a new revelation even in the valley.
