Neuma is a Houston-based duo comprised of Jerry Richard (vocals) and Alexandra Ehrhardt (piano/vocals). Their style can be summarized as adult contemporary or light pop a la Bryan Duncan or Jim Brickman.
"The Art" features a Kenny G.-like sax solo by Tom Braxton, and is led by Richard's soulful vocals. "Porn King" highlights Ehrhardt's vocals, and deals with looking for love, or something more, even while love is already present. In "Peace, Peace" Richard approaches Vince Ebo territory, while "Cobblestone Road" shows him in Bryan Duncan range.
"Bitter-Colored Ribbons" is a political statement about looking for peace while in the midst of war. "What About Tomorrow" is a wistful breakup song. "Changes" is a brief instrumental that works well.
The musicianship on the CD is good, and Richard's vocals are decidedly above average. For me, though, Ehrhardt's lead vocals detract from the overall sound. She does well in a complementary role, and may be better suited for that area. Neuma is for fans of soft rock artists like Cindy Morgan, Bryan Duncan, Jim Brickman, or perhaps Celine Dion.
