Palisade (the group and self-titled CD) pops out of the CCM music chute with {pleasant, radio-friendly songs that will please the palate of pop-rock fans. Jeremy Deibler of FFH produced Palisade, and fans of that {group,} Avalon, Point of Grace, and even Caedmon's Call albeit lyrically lighter will appreciate this project. Palisade is not loaded with musical or lyrical surprises, but the vocals (from pastor's kids Ashley Jett, Brandon Peffer, and Jeremy Noel) are top-notch and there is a nice variety of song types. Hooks and catchy choruses abound, and the CD features a few nice ballads and a funky bit of fun in "When We See Glory."
Points are lost in the cheesy '70s reminiscent guitar line in the chorus of "Listen to My Life," a song that sent me scrambling for the forward button on the CD player. However, the soulful "Window" and the classy closing rendition of "It is Well" help Palisade's debut release close strongly. Fans of vocal-oriented CCM will need to check this one out.
