At first glance, we were both skeptical that this CD might just be another product from a mediocre Christian band. The art, however, implied that this band was doing something original. After scanning the demo tape, it became apparent that Pedro the Lion was offering the listener a very appealing sound.
Pedro the Lion's debut EP is a unique blend of mellow, emotional rock with a laid back beat. They show musical creativity that goes beyond the average 90's band. The songs tell the story of a rebellious youth who gets involved in drugs, and who eventually finds the "hole fixin' man", who brings him comfort and peace, making him whole. The vocalist does an incredible job of displaying the emotions of the story, ranging from screaming cries of desperation to soft and comforting lullabies.
Overall the disc is very accessible to people with varying musical tastes. This CD has depth and meaning that can provoke strong emotional responses in the listener. Pedro the Lion is a must for every music lover's collection.

Garlic Press #6Reviewed by michellefor the 1st couple of listens i figured that these guys, minus the vocals, sounded identical to joe christmas & wondered why t&n would even release another band that sounded so ... similar. now i am admitting that i am quite wrong, even though there may be similarities, pedro is quite diff. in a charming way. 5 guys from shoreline, wa with these 6 songs which are almost slower than the average…
The Phantom Tollbooth 1997Reviewed by Shari LloydCute cover. The little lion is adorable, a real change for Tooth and Nail. Open, home-spun arrangements emphasize the lyrics, which are very intelligent. This will be a shock to hardcore Tooth and Nail fans who haven't caught on to their label's diversity. It's too mellow and light weight for my tastes, but a well-done work nonetheless. 3 tocks
The Phantom Tollbooth 1997Reviewed by Linda T. StonehockerThere's something about this that says, "Buy me. I'm loveable!" Great packaging, interesting lyrics, a short and sweet EP. The music is less likeable; a single key, beat, and melody stretched into a complete concept is a little flat for my tastes, but you have to admire their consistency. 3 tocksSimilar sounding releases
