An interesting dance EP that brings a smile to my lips every time I de-box it and slip it into my CD player. I say EP even though it has 14 tracks because it only has six different PIB songs. The rest of the tracks are remixes, and one final song from another artist, Hector.
People In A Box is four singer/musicians out of Nashville led by a native Mississippian, Kurt Kirton. Even on the web site it's kind of hard to tell who is in the band except for Kirton. The other members seem to be singer: Melody Scheltske, keyboards: Josh Diamond, and Patrick Lake on guitars. But these four pull in lots of additional talent from many different directions to help with the process. The result is a Euro dance collection of body moving beats and some nice vocal performances. The obvious influences to my ears are Human League and ABBA cavorting together at the local disco. Included is the group's version[s four, actually] of Farrell and Farrell's song that inspired the band name, "People In A Box." Sometimes the CD sounds like a demo, other times it is well produced and rocks. There are flaws but the generally playful attitude overcomes a multitude of sins for me. Corniness and keyboards abound but my head is bouncing and my heart is grinning.
