Oh yeah. Hear that bass! The days of cheesy demo sonics are a forgotten memory for this funk-metal band. The decision to use a professional studio, coupled with this hip songwriting, just might be the ticket that gets this band some immediate label attention. "The Depth Of My Soul" starts things off with a bang, incorporating some good BGV gang chorus action to good, audible effect. Let me say it just once: This tape is hot! The songwriters here are very skilled at crafting a hook and keeping it musically interesting enough to fully get into it. The lyrics here are above standard as well. Check out the first verse of "Force Fed": "Eyes wide open/ feed on every line/ every picture, every word/ They cut so deep and razor fine/ And is it any wonder/ that what I hate is what I seek/ When blood becomes the common scene/ when heart is hard and flesh is weak." The biggest mistakes I see funk/metal bands make is delivering vocals that are undistinguishable, and playing too fast for the groove. Precious Death doesn't fall into either of these pits. Instead they take a tip from Faith No More (but don't use keyboards) and slightly commercialize their sound. Be one of the smart ones and buy this tape now.
