It surely isn't easy to make songs with words like "I will be here always and forever, I'll be here for you" or "I'm gonna let it shine, I'm gonna let it shine, I'm gonna let it shine." Dance music has always been a bit of a controversy in the Christian music scene. Often, this genre is accused of being too superficial with words. But then again, when one is dancing to the music, it's good to be repetitive so one can easily catch the words to the song, especially if the tune is extra catchy.

That is exactly what Raze's That's The Way EP is like. The first time I heard "Always & Forever (BFF)," it was so stuck in my head it wasn't funny. It was reinforced even more when I watched the awesome video to that same track which featured stylish spaceships and futuristic surroundings.

Raze has an alternative sense of dressing. And it really makes them stand out from the crowd! Vinyl trousers, big shoes, cute outfits and quite outrageous hair. They're all there. And their names are cool too: Ja'Marc, Mizzie, J.D. and Donnie!

Because their lyrics are relatively "light," their songs are able to blend in and permeate the routines of life, covering everyday issues like needing to shine in Christ, needing the love of God, and being good friends to each other. And it makes good dance music - that's what they meant it to be. Because of this, the EP will appeal to Christians and non-Christians alike, especially when both are dancing to the music.

A lot of dance music is rather mindless drivel of bass beats. The good news is that Raze's version of dance music doesn't sound like a typical thump-thump-thump no-brainer type of music. The music is infectious.

If you enjoy music from the likes of World Wide Message Tribe, JC Culture, and M People, Raze provides a slightly different angle to dance music, and it sounds good. The EP did leave me wanting more of Raze. I can't wait till they release their full length album.
