Gregorian chant is an acquired taste, but it doesn't take long to acquire a taste for the Schola of the Seminary of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The group has very good diction and lands and departs on the "s" sound (such as Spiritui Sancto) with skill. There is an ethereal feel to the music that is highly listenable. The selections are excerpts from Psalms, Isaiah, Philippians, and Luke. Latin is on the left side of the program and English on the right side for the convenience of the listener. The theme of the four sections moves from lifting up one's soul, to the Lord coming to save the nations, to rejoicing in the Lord, and, finally, to "The heavens [showing] forth the glory of God." From the beginning to the end of the CD, there is a quality of performance that can only come from practice--as in the old adage "practice makes perfect." This speaks for itself here.
