Lyrically straightforward and evangelically-oriented, "Breaking Free" is definitely what this tape from the New York based band Sentry is all about. The tape kicks off with an upbeat melodic tune called "Shout the Word", which challenges Christians to stop being silent and instead to boldly proclaim the Gospel. The tempo immediately slows down with "Real Love", a ballad about the true love of God and how it can heal the heartache in people's lives. Continuing the message of God's love and mercy is the next song, "To Go My Own Way", which has the Lord saying "I will forgive all the pain and the hurt you've caused Me/ Even if you go your own way." The cassette wraps up with "Shattered Lives", which has a message reminiscent of the first song. It urges Christians to come out of their complacency and to show Christ's compassion for the lost and hurting: "No, it's not a game/ Their feeling's at stake/ Tell me why, why aren't you able to see/ It's too late, a heart has been broken." Containing a heavy keyboard sound throughout, this is certainly not raw, driving metal, but it is indeed quality, commercial-sounding rock worth listening to.
