Bearing a clean folk-rock sound and even cleaner production, Hard to Find is the latest release from Seventy Two Others. It's supposedly a short collection of older material that the band decided to dust off and make into a new record and for what it is, it works.
The first song, "Jessica," kicks things off- a sweet, short little diddy that seems to be about a father who misses his young daughter. The rhythmic drumming plods along, the banjos kick in, the voices drawl out the words, and I'm digging this. Songs two and five, "Only Want You" and "Hard to Find," are the most impressive tracks, with some pretty good down-home melodies. The five song EP is over very quickly, and none of the tracks are out rightly amazing, which linked together tends to hurt its lasting appeal (unless you really like listening to the same songs over and over again), but what's there is enjoyable enough.
I like these guys' gumption; it's an average EP, but it's caught my interest in the rest of the band's material. Keep your eyes and ears out for Seventy Two Others. After checking out their recording history, they seem to bounce back and forth between releasing an LP and then an EP, so what they have in store next could be a much more full and impressive recording.
