No major problems here. There's the necessary crash, thump, crunch of a rhythm section combined with faux-technical riffing and a more than decent sing-scream-roar-swoon from vocalist Shane Told.
The Canadian fivetet would be considered screamo by most but hard-rock will suffice. Every hard band is measured by the breakdown and Silverstein don't shy away from killing the groove and replacing it with a buried rhythm Armageddon.
Take the opening Your Sword Vs My Dagger. The rock-roar is there but the fuzzed up and bullocking bass of Billy Hamilton rips the song open at the three-quarter mark and out comes the contrast used by hardcore for the last decade, the beast against the swooning layered beauty.
Then there's the almost epic title track. It starts with a slivery of percussion and Told's promise: "I won't kill again". Sonically, imagine Green Day delivering their best ballad with the balls of Bad Religion. It should be on radio but offers just a little too much of a challenge.
Discovering The Waterfront won't change the world and that sits just fine with Silverstein.
