Listening to this album brings me back to when I was in high school in the early 80's when Tears for Fears, Dead Can Dance, and Peter Murphy were my favorite bands. Actually, it doesn't, because I was only in elementary school in the 80's, and those were never my favorite bands. But if I were 10 years older, and had been a goth in high school, I'm sure this album would bring me back to those days. Seriously though, this album does remind me of the major label new wave / goth albums from that era in my collection. I can't really put my finger on what it is, but something about the recording does make it sound like it's from the 80's. That's a compliment, not a derailment.

This self titled debut is actually a re-release of the band's 1997 independent release, but due to the quality of the album, I can see why MCM wanted to release this first, instead of just having the band record a brand new full length right off the bat.

The Phantom Tollbooth 2000Reviewed by Josh SpencerThis has been out for three years now, but since there's a lack of this kind of music in the Christian market, it's worth a new review. Spirit and the Bride is a group of eight musicians and two vocalists who have succeeded in tackling a variety of song styles on one album while retaining a unified sound. There's jangly guitar ala '80s modern rock, industro-ambient meandering, world-beat, funky…
