There are few names in Christian music circles as well respected as that of Steve Green, going back to his days with groups such as Truth and White Heart. He has sold as many albums as many other artists combined, and he represents an honesty and integrity in both his music and his life.

Fortunately, this album continues in that vein. Instead of trying to reinvent himself as something he is not, Green has wisely chosen to go with what he knows best, and that is making music that ministers to and encourages those within the body of Christ.

However, this isn't to say that he doesn't stretch his boundaries a little on this album. The track containing the album title, "Thread of Scarlet," has a beautiful and haunting acoustic guitar riff which stretches the song structure into something refreshingly different from the norm. Green then covers "God of Wonders" from City On a Hill, and does so, bringing out nuances not explored in the original.

Other examples of this boundary stretching include "If We Answer," with its slightly harder edge, the Celtic tinge to "Sacrifice of Praise," "O Pilgrim Come," done with a bluegrass feel, a nod to Green's own love for that musical genre brought back to popularity with the success of O Brother, Where Art Thou, and ending the album with "Non Nobis Domine," sung in Latin.

If nothing else, this album demonstrates that Green still has the ability to draw his listeners into the realm of praise and worship of God, without feeling a need to sound like anyone other than himself. This album just has the right overall tone for the songs selected-- a sign of the able production by Phil Naish.

Steve Green has been around for a while, but he has not become stagnant in his success. He has woven into this album a tapestry of sounds and styles which complement each other. This album is a testament to his excellent voice, and is a welcome addition to the current musical landscape.
