It is a long time since Steven Lindsay was being reviewed unless he got a mention for his vocal on Craig Armstrong's As If To Nothing. It was that work that nudged him back into the studio with gorgeous results. As singer of eighties almost huge Big Dish he fronted a jangly Glasgow guitar band with pop sensibilities. Here the piano takes central role in a reasonably sparse music-scape; The Scottish Ensemble's involvement tells you something of the tastefulness. It is almost Coldplay with ten years more maturity. There are also eastern George Harrison psychedelic moments as in Butterfly. Like his fellow Glaswegians Blue Nile this is about mood and melody and a slow burn of wisdom and emotional depth. The results are equally sublime.
