Sufjan Stevens has two of the first releases on Asthmatic Kitty records, but they are worlds apart. A Sun Came offers up an eclectic mix of lo-fi pop music, but Enjoy Your Rabbit is an experimental blend of electronica and orchestrated dissonance. But unlike most electronica, there really isn't anything here with enough back-beat to dance to. Much of the music is generated by computers and loops, creating a CD that sounds more like a video game soundtrack. Most of the songs fit within the animals of the Chinese Zodiac, and unfortunately, both the album, and some of the individual songs, run too long. And it doesn't seem like something that most people would want to listen to more than once or twice. There are a few occasions where the songs are more melodic and might even be a little reminiscent of the instrumental work on some of the earliest Genesis albums or solo work of Anthony Phillips. Best cuts include "Year of the Ox," "Year of the Rooster," "Year of the Dragon," and "Year of the Dog."
