With the horror rock shtick behind them, the Deadlines have embraced the resurgence of straightforward 'old-timey' 70s / 80s garage rock, keeping the Farfisa organ, but losing the camp and fake blood. Marvelously sardonic songs like "Stalker," and degenerate trips like "Burn In," feel authentic and dirty. Think the Doors, Clash, Pixies, and Replacements. Keeping the elements of their past song writing that actually worked, filthy, bare-bones hooks abound. Endearing utter nonsense is also everywhere -- some points are made, but mostly we get a raw exercise in throwback rock delinquency. Escaping their image-based material is going to be quite a challenge, but these songs are primed for the attempt.
