This is another band coming from the so-cal scene that is trying to prove that they have what it takes to be above the mundane music spectrum and their name is The Few. This three piece band has taken their musical influences from their childhood and ran with them. With being influenced heavily by The Replacements, The Cure, Elvis Costello, and The Beatles (not a bad bunch of guys to be influenced by) they take the sounds of their heroes and make them their own without ripping off anyone. The Few traveled from LA to Athens, Georgia to record their first album with Andy Lemaster. Andy Lemaster was also a major influence on their musical tastes, he recorded some of their favorite albums that influenced their music today. This self-titled album will be released by PSB Records (www.psbrecords.com) on May 16th.
The Few is just good at what they do. They use their influences to the best of their ability without ripping anyone off and that is a rare quality in trying to make a mark in the music world. The recording of this album is not the best but it is honestly a great sound for this band.
If you are a fan of The Replacements you will really love this album. It just has that good pop rock sound to it that The Replacements had. This is a good record. It is nothing spectacular but it is good. Good sound, it's nice to hear a band like this without having to go back two or three decades. This is a great effort for a first release.
