This simple poetry from "Tomorrow on the Runway" speaks volumes about the quiet, understated music of Pennsylvania's Innocence Mission. Along with multi-instrumentalist husband Don Peris and bassist Mike Bitts, Karen Peris spins a net of tenderness to cast and draw listeners closer, ever closer. Though Karen laments the loss of a mother and friend during "I Never Knew You from the Sun" while repeating the title with Bjork-like inflection, the song itself suggests sorrow far beyond any lack of intimacy. Recurring images of the weather and passing seasons recall the hushed grace and tone poetry of Over the Rhine's more restrained material.
