Well, here it is. Someone finally put together a tribute album that is worthy to pay tribute to a classic hardcore-punk band. This is probably one of the only tribute albums for a classic punk band that actually deserves to be noticed by the hardcore and punk scene. I have been tremendously unimpressed with other tribute albums I've heard in the past few years. The Clash, The Ramones, The Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains all have been victims to the tribute album massacre.
Initial Records did a very good job of getting some of the best bands in hardcore/punk rock to cover Black Flag. This album is basically the merging of four separate seven inches on one cd.
If you are curious which songs are covered by which bands, here is the track listing:
American Nothing - Depression
Anodyne - Life Of Pain
Burnt By The Sun - Drinking and Driving
Coalesce - Jealous Again
Converge - Annihilate This Week
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Damage I & II
The Hope Conspiracy - Nervous Breakdown
Planes Mistaken For Stars - Police Story/Waster
Playing Enemy - Six Pack
It is a tad short but it is effective. It's better than hearing Moby covering another punk band. And it's better than a Weezer tribute album or even two Weezer tribute albums. This album contains the last song recorded by Coalesce and the newest song recorded by The Dillinger Escape Plan with their new singer Greg Puciato. I love this album. The Coalesce song makes it worth the price, well if you are a Coalesce fan. If you are a Black Flag fan, you won't be disappointed.
