I was pleasantly surprised to finally find my copy of the M8 Records Best of Cornerstone Retro DVD in the mail today. I rolled in and swiftly popped it into the player and hit enter. Several things hit me immediately. The sound is excellent! The recording is really good, especially for a live recording. I like the fact that it's not overdubbed. If they cracked or clammed a note, it's on there. Cool. The thing that really beat me down the most is the fact that the primary camera angle is a wide angle from the back of the room. You can't even tell who's on the stage. I'm very stoked that M8 put out a DVD, I love M8 stuff for the most part. I'm bummed terribly about the disappointing camera angles. It cuts to a shot of George Ochoa during the Recon set....and he's gone quicker than you can blink. Give me some closeups! Show me that they all have short hair now! Overall, the band's performances are cool to hear and somewhat see. On the heels of the Deliverance Live at Cornerstone CD...this is not nearly as cool. Oh yeah....why isn't Deliverance on here?!?!?!? On a scale of 1 - 10, I give it a 4.
4/10
