    Charlie Peacock is an American singer-songwriter from California who also worked as a pianist and producer; his professional career began in the late 1970s, after he left California State University, Sacramento and played jazz piano with the Runners. His early records on Exit and Island placed him near alternative pop, while his move to Sparrow brought him into Christian music without settling him into one style. The 1990 debut The Secret of Time paired polished pop with alternative edges and brief industrial noise. After several years away from solo recording, Everything That's on My Mind turned toward rougher rock, with story-based lyrics and spiritual ideas left for the listener to draw out. strangelanguage widened the palette again. Its keyboard-led, retro-tinged pop used distorted vocals and a more experimental arrangement, while the writing moved from grace and self-examination to the comic image of feeling spiritually like monkeys at the zoo.

    In 1996, Peacock founded re:think, an imprint through which he signed Sarah Masen and Switchfoot while continuing his own records. Kingdom Come followed in 1999, returning from the experiments of strangelanguage to a funkier jazz-pop setting and more intimate vocals; the same period also brought seminary study and a growing production career. From 1990 through 1999, he produced more than fifty Christian and gospel albums, then continued working behind the scenes while making solo music. Later recordings moved through jazz and improvisation before returning to folk and pop. He completed The Civil Wars' second album as a producer after the duo's breakup, and directed Lipscomb University's commercial music program. Peacock remains active as a recording artist and released Every Kind of Uh-Oh in 2024, co-produced with his son Sam Ashworth.
