    Jaci Velasquez is a Houston-born contemporary Christian singer who began performing with her family's worship ministry before signing with Myrrh in the mid-1990s. At 16, she introduced herself with Heavenly Place, a polished pop record built around forceful vocals, direct Christian lyrics, and occasional Spanish-language passages. The album also connected her with Hispanic musical heritage without leaving the mainstream CCM format. Her self-titled 1998 follow-up retained the pop foundation while trying broader textures, including classic-rock guitar, alternative touches, and softer ballads. By Crystal Clear in 2000, Latin rhythms, horns, and dance-pop production had become more prominent. Across those records, the most consistent feature was her unusually controlled, powerful voice.

    In 2004, Velasquez launched Apostrophe Records after leaving Word's established recording system. She married Salvador member Nic Gonzales in 2006 and later concentrated on family life, taking a five-year break from recording. Her return came with Trust in 2016, an English-and-Spanish worship project made with Integrity Music after the more reserved pop direction of Unspoken. She also worked in radio and film, while continuing to perform and record beyond the period covered by the early albums. Velasquez remains a solo singer rather than a retired figure.
