Movies with Heroes is a Lancaster, Pennsylvania indie rock band that grew out of Mack, the Coffee Man. By 2001, after changing its name and adding a second guitarist, the group had settled into pop-minded melodic rock with emo-adjacent guitars, layered harmonies, keyboards, and occasional French horn. Keith Wilson's writing gave the songs their particular focus: The Slate paired relationship material with observations about fashion, storms, and materialism, while "Screenplay" used movie imagery as a frame for a more reflective song. The band could sound relaxed and tuneful, though one review objected to Wilson's frequently out-of-tune vocals. On the 2002 Split, Movies with Heroes pushed toward tighter, faster, more openly rocking songs, with Wilson's lyrics addressing fifteen years of effort, label setbacks, and the strain of continuing in music.
By 2007, Movies with Heroes had stopped recording and touring regularly, after roughly seven years of activity. The group remained connected, however, and began writing together remotely several years later. In late 2020, its members used a Kickstarter campaign to fund new recordings; sessions began in April 2021. The resulting Bring on the Night appeared in 2023 as the band's first new music since the earlier run of releases, with eleven songs assembled from more than thirty written during the intervening period. Movies with Heroes also released "Little Fire" as a single in February 2025.
