It's interesting to see one concert recorded and released in separate packages. M8 released their limited edition recording of this Gene Eugene tribute special incarnation of Adam Again live set first as a 3-disc boxset, along with live recordings of Adam Again from '95 and '97 and a few interview quotes about the departed Gene Eugene from several of his friends. This release on Resolve has a bonus disc as well - a solo album by Adam Again bassist Greg Lawless. Concerning the final performance of Adam Again, I'm so happy to hear these songs recorded with an enjoyable sonic quality, allowing these special songs to be showcased, especially since the set was performed by so many guest singers and musicians. It's amazing how singers like Derri Daugherty and Mike Roe dialed in Gene's unique raspy voice for these tunes. If an Adam Again cover band needs to exist, they won't have to look far for vocalists. A new Riki Michele solo song closes the live disc with an atmospheric and moody piece that plays like a female-fronted version of The Choir. The extra disc by Greg Lawless, titled Prayers And Lowsongs, puts forth a legitimate singer/songwriter album in the vein of Michael Knott, Bob Dylan, or Chris Lizotte. Very earthy, very blues-based, thoughtful, melodic, and slow. As genuine as leather. It will be tragic if this album gets lost in the shadow of this special live album. Here's hoping that it gets its own release in the near future. If you miss getting the M8 set before it sells out, please do yourself a favor and check this release out.
