The Rescue is the second solo project from Alicia. Alicia Williamson was part of Truth at the height of its popularity and joins 4 Him, Lisa Glasgow (First Call), and KarenLeigh as Truth members from that era who have gone on to other recording projects. Her voice stood out from the crowd even then, and this release assures that she will not soon be lost in the crowd.
The music covers a wide range of moods. "Love Will Carry Us Over" reflects confidence and exuberance in what God can do, as does "God Will Make A Way" and "If There's A Storm Tonight." "He Came For You" is a more contemplative and devotional song about the mission of Christ. "The Color Of A Man" is another subdued song pointing out that people of all colors are artworks of God, and it is God who chooses the color of a man. She also delivers a strong and lively call for recommitment to Christ in songs like "Rest In Me" and "Return To Me."
Every song on this album is good and most of them are great. Paul Mills handles the production for the project, keeping Alicia's vocals bold and strong, but not harsh nor oppressive. The backup music draws from gospel and R&B influences.
With the combination of contemporary Christian music tunes and lyrics sung with the energy and devotion of a Black Gospel singer, Alicia is claiming a niche that few female vocalists have and only Larnelle Harris has done as a male vocalist. This project is comparable both in musical style and in quality to the best he has done, and hopefully it will also enjoy the same success.
